Yeah, I know it's been a while since I've posted. Believe it or not, I've went through another girlfriend in that time, but that's another post some day! Okay, it was only a few dates and we decided there wasn't any chemistry. Does that mean she was a girlfriend or just a date???
My search for another job since being let go from my former employer the furniture store hasn't been going real well. Luckily my unemployment is still coming in, but if you've ever been on unemployment, you know it does't cover near as much as a regular paycheck! Heck, if this keeps up, I'll be selling stuff on ebay or working from home! LOL
I mean, it's not like I want to buy designer clothes everyday or go out and buy a new custom Corvette. Like many of you, I just need a little money to make it through the month.
Okay, I'm semi serious about the working from home thing. I've been looking at several options, just not sure which one would be right for me. I'd like something in sales though, since that is my background.
I have thought about going back to school. But I can't think of much that I'd like to take. I really like sales so I thought I'd take something in Business management or other business related courses. There is a community college near me that offers some of those night and weekend courses on specific hobby/job skills like Welding, Landscaping, etc. I noticed they have an upcoming seminar on Working at Home and Buying and Selling on ebay that I may take. I figure what the hell, it's not like I have a job to go to! Plus they're only $50 each. Hopefully this will help answer some questions I have about Working From Home and selling on ebay.
By the way, why is it when I get laid off, everyone and their brother knows about it? I mean, I must have made at least 20 different mailing list. Everything from payday loans to temporary jobs to low cost housing! Where in the heck do they get this list and who in the Government is selling our names and addresses...or is it Public Information?
Anyway, back to the job search. I have found several places where I thought I might get hired. One was in a Linens N Things and the other was a Mom and Pop operation. Linens N Things just wouldn't pay enough and Mom and Pop didn't want to pay enough. I even offered to go on straight commission but they freaked at that! Geez, does anyone realize that when you're on straight commission you get paid for what you sell? The more you sell (which makes them money) the more you get paid (which is an incentive to you to sell more).
I have tried a few online resources like Monster and Career Builders. However, all the offers there are either in another city or they're low paying temp jobs.
Yesterday I turned in an job application to a home improvement type place. This place sells stuff like Home Depot and Lowes, only it's a little more hands on and a lot more upscale. I figure if I can't sell furniture, then home improvement stuff is the next best thing...right? Of course, it helps that they pay a base salary plus commissions on sales.
Two weeks ago I applied at a National Franchise of a Pest Control company on outside sales. I don't think I'd like this job so much, but it did pay well. I haven't heard anything from them as of yet. This may be a good thing!
Well, gotta go. Just thought I'd catch some of you up on my job hunting since you asked. I promise to post more often from now on!
